Urinary Tract Infections

A urinary tract infection (UTI) occurs when microorganisms infect part of the urinary tract. Typical symptoms include burning or pain when passing urine, increased frequency and urgency, and sometimes lower abdominal discomfort.

 

Some people experience repeated UTIs, while others continue to experience burning, urgency or bladder discomfort after an infection has apparently cleared. This distinction is important. Persistent urinary symptoms do not necessarily mean that an infection is still present, and bladder pain syndrome can resemble a UTI.
